Trip to Charleston and Myrtle Beach, SC
We decided to treat the kids to a mini getaway in South Carolina, where Anita experienced her first flight ever! Our adventure began in Charleston, where we explored the historic city for two days. Then we hit the road and headed to Myrtle Beach, where we enjoyed the sun and sand before flying back home.
Days
Day 1: PHL - CHS
On our first day, we flew around noon and arrived at Charleston International Airport in the afternoon. It took us about 20 minutes to get to our hotel, which was not very impressive or tidy, but the kids didn't mind as they had a blast in the pool.

Day 2: Charleston, SC
The next day, we got up early and headed to the pier, where we felt a cool breeze at first. We strolled around the charming town, admiring the monuments and magnificent trees. Then we joined a pirate scavenger hunt, which the kids adored and the guide entertained us with amazing stories. We learned that Blackbeard and his crew tried to treat syphilis with mercury, which was a horrible mistake. After that, we had lunch at Chicago Pizza and continued to explore the historic landmarks for the rest of the day.

Day 3: Charleston, SC
On our third day, we headed west of downtown Charleston to visit the Magnolia plantation, where former slave cabins were occupied until the 1990s. Louisa was fascinated by the stories of the enslaved people who lived there. The guide praised Louisa for her curiosity about Harriet Tubman. The garden was breathtaking! We wrapped up our tour of the plantation and headed back downtown. There, we hopped on a ferry that took us to Fort Sumter. I was moved by the sight of the children slaves’ handprints on the bricks they had to make for the fort.

Day 4: Myrtle Beach, SC
On our fourth day, we made our way to Myrtle Beach! But before we hit the road for two hours, we visited the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. We got to see the USS Yorktown and learn about life on board a naval ship. We climbed a lot of steep stairs, which was exhausting but fun! We arrived at Myrtle Beach just around check-in time. After we dropped our bags off at the hotel room, we went down to the boardwalk and enjoyed dinner at Moe's Moon.

Day 5: Myrtle Beach, SC
Anita's 5th Birthday!!!! Hoo-ray!
Anita's birthday called for an epic Day 5 packed with fun! We kicked things off at Alligator Adventures, where we caught an amazing Gator show and got up close with some massive reptiles - including Bob, the tailless Gator who hilariously resembles a butt! After that, we headed back to the boardwalk for lunch at Riptydz. While Anita hunted for seashells, Louisa braved the cold water for a quick swim. But the real highlight came later when we scored tickets to Pirate Voyage! Picture Medieval Times, but with pirates - it was a blast! The girls got their faces painted, we picked up a few souvenirs, and then we settled in for an incredible show that blew us away. Whether you've got kids or not, Pirate Voyage is a must-see in Myrtle Beach. Trust me, you won't regret it!
